Kindle Oasis, is it worth it?

I don’t know how many of you are into E-Readers but Amazon just released their new E-Reader to their Kindle Family and it is called the Oasis. I personally have never been much of user of E-Readers for a number of reasons. First off the problem I’ve had with jumping into this market of devices is that I really just like holding books. I don’t know how you feel about it, but holding a book, and the satisfaction of turning the last page and seeing how you read through 500 pages is a self recognition proving that you really did it. With an E-reader, yes it may hold thousands of books at a time, but that self satisfaction cannot really be seen, but that is just my personal bias and I wanted all of you to know none of that is playing into the Pre-Release review of this device.

BUT this E-Reader, the Kindle Oasis,  is definitely one of the best products for those of you who really enjoy them, and I’m going to tell you why!

Can it get any Thinner and Lighter?

This new device is remarkably redesigned. According to Amazon is is 20% lighter and 30% thinner leaving it at roughly 0.13″! I’ve got to say, that is pretty small for a device, but at least it has this hand grip on the side so you can comfortably hold it.

Battery = Insane

You know how your iPhone will barely hold a charge for the entire day? And you can get your iPad to run probably a lot longer if you use it a bit each day? The Oasis can hold a battery charge for what Amazon states as “Months.” Not days or weeks, but Months.

This is how they do it. You charge the device and the cover while they are together and plugged in. Then when you are on the move the cover automatically recharges your device, with the addition of this new hibernation mode, which decreases power consumption when you’re not using the Kindle, gives its battery life maximum capacity lasting months of use.

You’re probably thinking to yourself, that you would only have to charge the devices roughly 6 times a year… that it probably a good deal if you tell me!

Free 3G

Yes you read that right. You can get this device with Wifi and Free 3G. According to Amazon, “built-in free 3G connectivity uses the same wireless signals that cell phones use, but there are no monthly fees or commitments—Amazon pays for 3G wireless connectivity. The added convenience of 3G enables you to download books anytime, anywhere, without having to find a Wi-Fi hotspot connection. ”

I’ve got to admit… that is pretty awesome. Not only can you just connect to wifi and download a book, you can also download a book no matter where you are, always having access to an infinite library.

Tech Specs

  • No system requirements, it is completely wireless
  • On Device Storage: 4GB, BUT you do have Free Cloud Storage for all Amazon Content

Overall this definitely tops all of the E-Readers I have seen on the market. So if you enjoy these devices, you may have to look into getting one on Amazon for $289.00 when it releases on April 27th, 2016!
